THE MISSING PIECE · English Edition · No. 04
THE DISCOVERY
There are all kinds of discoveries — some bring emotion, some anger, some laughter. The most human ones happen inside a relationship, when a couple discovers the third wheel: the lover. Sometimes the plot thickens when the lover turns out to be the same sex, and the battle turns from another person to their own ego.
Science gives us its own discoveries — a miracle drug, a breakthrough — until we learn someone was simply reaching into our pockets, armed with a degree and an excellent marketing department. Then there are financial discoveries, where Elon Musk is a true master, and workers wake up rich overnight. And there are the accidental discoveries nobody talks about — too ordinary, too cheap to be valuable, because people rarely value what is simple.
But today I want to tell you about a shy little hero that saves lives without asking for recognition: garlic.
When I was living in a shelter, hungry and broke, a young Brazilian man told me to start eating it — a natural antibiotic, good for circulation, and above all, something that killed the constant feeling of hunger, freeing the mind to focus on finding a way out of the tunnel. It worked. It worked so well that the first people to thank me weren’t my friends — they were their wives. Nobody ever complained about the smell. They only talked about one thing: it worked.
Just like honest writing works. A true story succeeds without expensive packaging or corporate sponsors. It simply does its job — leaving deception to those who sell dreams, with no garlic included.
P.S. If, after reading this, you find yourself sitting in the bathroom a little longer than usual, that’s not a side effect. It’s the chapter I decided to give you for free. Every great discovery requires a small sacrifice.
