THE LAST STEP

As children we believe the world ends where our gaze ends. Then we grow up, and discover the most important edges are not geographical. They are inner. Every time I reached a goal, another appeared. Then I began to notice: it was not the milestones that transformed me. It was the passages — the moment I left the known ground and set foot on something I no longer controlled.

The edge is a thin line where certainties end and possibilities begin. This is why it is frightening, and this is why it is precious. Love lives beyond the edge of control. Trust lives beyond the edge of fear. Growth lives beyond the edge of habit. No one truly crosses an inner boundary without paying something — leaving behind convictions, outdated versions of oneself.

This is why many people prefer to stay, not because they are weak, but because they understand the price. The problem is that staying also has a price — the missed possibility, the life not lived. I began to see the edge not as an obstacle but as an invitation to stop defining myself through what I had done, and leave room for what I could still become.

Looking back, I do not remember all the results. What I remember are the edges — the moments I could have turned back and did not. Every human being possesses an edge, an invisible line beyond which the next version of oneself begins. That is where the world becomes larger. That is where the story continues. Beyond the edge.
